Debra, it's one thing when sitcom stars from when I was growing up die (such as Suzanne Somers), but I was already in my 30s when Friends came along! There's no excuse.
I read the Wikipedia article on him. Talk about gravitating towards broken characters. They were his own kind. I didn't know all that stuff about him. I guess that's what too much money can get you into, a drug/rehab loop that you can't break.
Hello Kirk, Another one that I can't help much with, other than observing that he died much too young, although from his Wikipedia article it seems that he abused every known drug. By the way, do you remember Chandler and Rudd? --Jim
I'm back, good buddy, returning to the blog community following a hiatus of nearly five months duration. I hope are are doing well and in good spirits.
In the months since we last connected, our old friend the Reaper has continued to harvest his human crop unabated. Casualties include Jimmy Buffett, Bob Barker, the mystery blonde in the T-bird from American Graffiti who later became famous as Chrissy Snow and, alas, a Friend we will always remember, Chandler Bing. Mrs. Shady and I liked Matt Perry a lot. In the early 2000s, we enjoyed his appearances on The West Wing. In the mid 2000s, we had high hopes for his series Studio 60 On The Sunset Strip. We watched every episode and were upset when the network pulled the plug after a short run. Earlier this year in my salute to Amy Adams, you might recall that I posted scenes from Perry's 2002 film Serving Sara, a low rated comedy that I nevertheless enjoyed. Thanks for remembering the talented but troubled Matthew Perry.
FYI - I will be publishing my first new post this Saturday, November 4, if you'd like to check it out. Enjoy the rest of your week, Kirk, and I hope to see you again soon!
In order to keep the hucksters, humbugs, scoundrels, psychos, morons, and last but not least, artificial intelligentsia at bay, I have decided to turn on comment moderation. On the plus side, I've gotten rid of the word verification.
What an impact that character had on our culture. How many of us speak like Chandler at times and don't even realize it?
ReplyDeleteChandler Bing would have made a great blogger, Mitchell.
DeleteA real shock. He was too young.

ReplyDeleteIt's not why I chose the quote, Mike, but the irony wasn't lost on me.

Jim, I have a vague memory of seeing ads for the local grocery chain in the PD and Press, but it's not a place my mother ever shopped at.
