Thanks for following-up with a second post related to the death of groundbreaking newswoman Barbara Walters by reminding us of her interview with Monica Lewinsky in March, 1999. "Next time shoplift" is the kind of punchline we came to expect from Barbara. She had the ability to go off script and was not afraid to insert an opinionated zinger or two.
Safe to say Monica Lewinski blew it and was Tripped-up, but she got off her knees and landed on her feet. In recent years, she has gained acceptance, admiration and a voice. She has done further interviews, public speaking and has taken a public stand against cyberbullying. Most recently, she became co-producer of the third season of the TV series American Crime Story. Using the title Impeachment, the 10-episode series dramatizes the Clinton–Lewinsky scandal. It premiered in the fall of 2021.
Shady, Monica Lewinsky was a pawn in a much bigger game. She was young and naive and more than a bit startruck, unlike the game's alleged grandmaster, who was neither young, should have been beyond naivety at that point, and, as a world historical figure, had little reason to be starstruck (horny is another matter.) That bit of 1990s nonsense is part of what soured me on the two-party system, not that my sourness and three dollars in quarters will get you anything but a machine at the laundromat.
In order to keep the hucksters, humbugs, scoundrels, psychos, morons, and last but not least, artificial intelligentsia at bay, I have decided to turn on comment moderation. On the plus side, I've gotten rid of the word verification.
I know her name in passing Kirk. RIP Barbara.
ReplyDeleteHope you have a good 2023.
I hope you have a good 2003, too, Ananka
DeleteI meant 2023. The year's barely begun, and I'm already with the typos!
DeleteGreat advice.
ReplyDeleteAnother reason to mourn Barbara's passing, Mitchell.

DeleteNot to give you the wrong impression, I still VOTE for one of the two major parties, I just enjoy doing so a lot less.
Delete"Next time, shoplift" -- HAHAHAHAHAHA!
ReplyDeleteDespite Elon Musk's meddling, Twitter is still good for a laugh, Debra.
DeleteLOL! I never saw that post! Well to be truthful, I haven't really been on Twitter for awhile. But ha!! May Barbara rest in peace.
ReplyDeleteJM, even though I've been following Monica on Twitter for a while now, I came across this particular tweet in a news story.
