"Can't all the good little boys and girls in the world wait just this once? The Jack Frosts are throwing a party and I want to go!"
Actually, that's model Dorian Leigh and actor/singer/dancer Ray Bolger on this 1946 magazine cover. Bolger makes a rather scrawny St. Nick, don't you think? He could use a pillow under that outfit, or maybe just some...
...straw. Hey, it's worked in the past.

Bolger makes a very comical St. Nick. Great picture.
ReplyDeleteBolger looks a bit reluctant, Mitchell.
DeleteAll the very best for Christmas and the New Year. May 2026 be filled with happiness and good health.
ReplyDeleteThe same to you, David!
DeleteI laughed at your post title! Yes, Ray Bolger was one lean guy, wasn't he? I only ever associate him with the Wizard of Oz movie and know little about him otherwise.
ReplyDeleteDebra, in his heyday Bolger was what they call a "star of stage and screen" and known for a lot of different roles. As you note, those roles he was known for have been one whittled down to just one.
DeleteHe looks like what a male stripper would look like when dressed as Santa.
ReplyDeleteAndrew, Bolger really didn't have the body for that.
DeleteHello Kirk, Bolger turned up in a lot of movies and other places, and was know for his "rubber legs" dancing technique. I had to read up on interesting Dorian Leigh, one of the first supermodels.

Jim, the reason for my posting this--other than I needed a Christmas post--was that I thought it would be a surprise to people who only know him as the Scarecrow, that Bolger was enough of a celebrity in 1946 (The Wizard of Oz came out in the now-legendary movie-making year of 1939) to warrant being on being on the cover of Vogue with a well-known model. Of course, I had to make mention of the Oz connection anyway, because I thought otherwise, some people may not even recognize his name! Fame is fleeting.
Delete"being on being on"
DeleteSheesh!
The post title made me laugh! :) Thank you so much for sharing.
ReplyDeleteGlad you enjoyed it, Linda.
DeleteMerry Christmas. I hope your day is full of brain, heart, and courage and maybe a bit more holiday feast than poor Ray had here.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Melody, and a very merry Christmas to you, too.
