With all the turmoil taking place here on planet Earth, you'd at least think the heavens above could offer a bit of serenity. No such luck! On July 1 of this year an Asteroid Terrestrial-impact Last Alert System (ATLAS) telescope in Rio Hurtado, Chile took notice of a comet newly arrived from outside the solar system. That it's acting a bit different from other known comets has scientists puzzled, and at least one scientist thinks it may not be a comet at all. Watch:
Well, maybe there's nothing to worry about after all. That '80s teen slang is much too dated to make a comeback.
Not that there aren't ominous signs elsewhere:
Better get out the tinfoil.

I had not heard of 6-7 until it was announced as word of the year, and I think there are far better ones that I might know, but as I came to understand its very vague meaning, I couldn't help but think of the phrase, 'I'm all at sixes and sevens'. There has got to be a connection.
ReplyDeleteAndrew, you may be on to something:

If it’s a spacecraft the occupants will be searching for intelligent life, so they wouldn’t come anywhere near here!
ReplyDeleteGood point, David.
DeleteHi Kirk, Well, we have to take into account that Avi Loeb is a crackpot. We could as well say that Mt. Everest is either a mountain or a piece of alien technology. Also, they keep saying how unusual 3I-Atlas is, but considering that it is from a different stellar system and that it is only the third such object identified, that is not much of a statistical base from which to draw comparisons.

Two out of three ain't bad, Jim.
DeleteI haven’t removed my aluminum foil hat. Clearly it’s been working.
ReplyDeleteMitchell, I'm going to have to call my broker and see what shares of Reynolds Wrap is going for these days.
DeleteMight be a blessing in some ways.
ReplyDeleteWe'll see if it hovers over Bethlehem, Debra.
DeleteTinfoil on standby! No clue about the whole 6-7 stuff just heard about it from you here and had a quick look online. I'm not hip!
ReplyDeleteScary to think we might be the most advanced beings in the Universe?
Downright frightening, Ananka.
DeleteLike Andrew, I never heard of 6-7 until it made word of the year.
When you mentioned 80's teen slang, I remember the 60's and 70's teen slang! LOL! Of course this is because I was born in 1956. Thank you so much for sharing.
ReplyDeleteLinda, I'm still trying to figure out what "grody to the max" means.
DeleteOh, yes, myself as well! :)
DeleteI wish I remembered 1980 slang
ReplyDeleteJohn, read JM's comment below, and then go listen to the song.
DeleteWhen you mentioned 80's slang, I immediately thought of that song Valley Girl by Moon Unit Zappa.
ReplyDeleteJM, that too became a movie. Deborah Foreman played the title character, but Nicholas Cage emerged the star.
