Loni Anderson (1946-2025) American actress commercial model businesswoman beauty titlist and media personality star in several TV films and media in Hollywood entertainment history.
David, I welcome all comments, even the ones that are at a bit of a loss. It gives me insight on the variety of views (or non-views) that are out there, so thank you!
Debra, WKRP in Cincinatti creator and producer Hugh Wilson said he wanted the Jennifer Marlowe character to be the smartest one in the room, and that's how Loni played it.
Hi Kirk, Loni Anderson is just a name to me, but she was around for so much of my life that her passing still signifies and end to an era for me (although not as much as does Tom Lehrer). --Jim
Jim, while Loni Anderson had genuine talent (or else I wouldn't have bothered with this post), Tom Lehrer was the more committed artist. Anderson did mostly Hollywood hack work after WKRP ended, and became as well-known for her tabloid personal life as anything she acted in. Yet there are, and were, as big as celebrities as her who also got caught up in, and maybe even eagerly embraced, the Hollywood-hackwork-and-tabloid treadmill, yet were not as talented, at least not in my opinion. To continue a conversation the two of us were having in another post, this is why I have to be careful who I eulogize, as the bigger celebrity, the bigger the task in separating the wheat from the chaff. Lehrer really had no chaff to speak of, whereas it was quite plentiful in Anderson's career. Nevertheless, the wheat was there, and that justifies this post.
I think she was pretty, but I was never a huge fan of hers. I recall WKRP but was pretty young in grade school. The only thing I recall watching with her was Partners in Crime with Lynda Carter. And neither of them could save the show.
Maddie, I think WKRP had more of a cult following than was a ratings blockbuster. For one thing, for one thing it had a rock music backdrop, and that was fine if you were a teen or twentysomething, but for people older than that back in the 1970s may have still been put off a bit by rock. Of course, that was then. These days, rock music is downright nostalgia.
In order to keep the hucksters, humbugs, scoundrels, psychos, morons, and last but not least, artificial intelligentsia at bay, I have decided to turn on comment moderation. On the plus side, I've gotten rid of the word verification.
She was in plenty of films, movies, and TV shows.
ReplyDeleteYes, Mike, but if she hadn't been in that one particular show, I wouldn't have even bothered with her passing.

DeleteThanks for commenting, Anonymous.
DeleteThe character had great lines and she played it well.
ReplyDeleteAgreed, Mitchell. Her comic timing was impeccable.
DeleteNever having participated in popular culture very much, I am at a bit of a loss with some of this. I know of the show, but never saw it.

DeleteYes, she flipped the Dumb Blonde stereotype on its head! RIP Loni. Always a fave.

DeleteNo idea of the show either Kirk. I don't recall her but I must have seen her in something maybe? RIP.
ReplyDeleteAnanka, she was in one or two movies with Burt Reynolds (whom she was married to for a while) Does that ring any bells?
