Quips and Quotations (Fleetwood Forget-Me-Not Edition)

I sang and played keyboard, so I was virtually a statue at the back of the stage. I’m not complaining about that; I enjoyed that role.

  1. Sadly I can only remember two singers from Fleetwood Mac, not Christine. Her death certainly made the news here with quite a bit of radio chat memories and music.

    1. Andrew, can I assume Stevie Nicks was one of those two singers?

    Hi, Kirk!

The Reaper Roster for 2022 is becoming unwieldy, good buddy. Thanks for remembering Christine McVie, the highly respected and influential musician, singer and songwriter who found fame as a member of the iconic band Fleetwood Mac.

    If you believe in forever
Then life is just a one-night stand
    If there's a rock n' roll heaven
Well you know they've got a hell of a band

Enjoy the rest of your week, good buddy Kirk!

    1. Shady, I was surprised at her age. I think I was in the 10th grade when Rumours came out, so naturally associate her with the 1970s. At this particular moment in time, it's the 1960s rock stars that are pushing 80, while the '70s rockers are pushing, well, 70. But looking at Christine McVie's bio, I see she got her start in a mid-1960s band called Chicken Shack, so that explains that. Meanwhile, Stevie Nicks and Lindsay Buckingham have yet to reach 75, the Laurel Canyon scene having emerged a few years later than the London blues scene. As for the Sun Records Memphis scene, the recently departed Jerry Lee Lewis may have been the last member of THAT. Finally, as to whatever scenes there were before all that, take heart that Tony Bennett is still alive.

    1. I'm a little annoyed right now, Debra, because just ten minutes ago I went to my CD rack to retrieve Rumours and see it's not there. I don't know what happened to it. Anyway, it says here on Wikipedia that eight songs (out of 16) were written or co-written by McVie. Incidentally, the song I have on this post "Songbird" (from Rumours) wasn't included because, well, it wasn't a hit (though, as a single, it was a B-side to another hit, Stevie Nicks' "Dreams"), but over the years it's gained a following all its own, and was frequently the closing song at Fleetwood Mac concerts.

  5. RIP Christine :-( I am a huge Fleetwood Mac fan from the Peter Green days to the Stevie Nicks days.

    1. Ananka, I see Peter Green died in 2020. I confess to being not all that familiar with that era of Fleetwood Mac, though I did learn that, even though Green was the main creative force behind the band during those years, it was his idea to name it after Mick Fleetwood and John McVie (hence the Mac) as a way of enticing them to be his new group. All three had formally been members of John Mayell and the Bluesbreakers.

    2. That era was amazing, you should have a listen. Yes I was sad to hear of his passing back then. I see Kirstie Alley died the other day. RIP to her.

    4. Not that I don't like her, Ananka, but I think I'm going to skip Kirstie Alley for now. I'm backed up on my email and haven't been paying enough attention of late to my fellow bloggers, such as yourself.

  6. I saw her in Fleetwood Mac’s concert in London a few years ago, a real live wire x
