Quips and Quotations (Halloween Hipster Edition)

Live people ignore the strange and the unusual. I myself am strange and unusual.

  1. Oh, how I loved that film. Maybe time to watch it again.

    1. Mitchell, this was originally going to be a "Vital Viewing" and, rather than use a quote, I was going to show a clip from the movie in which Winona-as-Lydia says that line, but then I had to take in account the latest news cycle, and feared Alec Baldwin's presence in that same clip might prove a bit too distracting...

  2. Hello Kirk, What is strange and unusual today is not some sort of appearance--it is to act with consideration, a quality that seems almost extinct.

  3. Hi, Kirk!

At first I feared this was another reaper report, good buddy. I am relieved to know that one of my favorite actresses, Winona Ryder, is alive and kickin' and is today celebrating her 50th birthday. Seems like she might turn 100 before the next season of Stranger Things airs.

I saw Winona for the first time in Beetlejuice along with Alec Baldwin whose fortunes took a disastrous turn recently on the set of Rust. Subsequently, I watched Winona in the following films: 1969, Heathers, Great Balls of Fire, Edward Scissorshands (the latter a movie partially shot in my area of Florida), Bram Stoker's Dracula, Age of Innocence, Reality Bites, Being John Malkovich, Zoolander and Black Swan. On the small screen, I saw her on Larry Sanders, Friends and SNL in addition to Stranger Things. Of all her roles, she was most bewitching in Dracula, in my opinion. Like her character Lydia, I am drawn to the strange and the unusual.

Happy Halloween 50th birthday to Winona Ryder. Have a safe and happy weekend, good buddy Kirk!

    1. Shady, go read my response to Mitchell's comment in regard to Alec Baldwin. I already had a post ready to go when the Baldwin news hit. Strange timing, indeed.

You had something on your own blog about Stranger Things. Did you mention Winona? I didn't know she was on that show until I skimmed through her bio. Now I DO want to see that show, and in fact one of the images I have on this post is from it.

While I don't think it's the greatest Dracula movie ever made--I think Francis Ford Coppola must have binge watched a bunch of music videos prior to filming--I do agree Winona made a great Mina Harker.

As for being drawn to the strange and unusual, that may be the reason you check out the blog (if the blog's not like that, I can assure you the BLOGGER is!)

    1. Debra, that may be more scary than Bram Stoker's Dracula and Alien Resurrection put together!

In order to keep the hucksters, humbugs, scoundrels, psychos, morons, and last but not least, artificial intelligentsia at bay, I have decided to turn on comment moderation. On the plus side, I've gotten rid of the word verification.
