Quips and Quotations

Those who are able to see beyond the shadow and lies of their culture will never be understood, let alone believed by the masses.

--Plato

(So THAT'S why I'm not getting as many page views as I'd like!--KJ)

Not only that but if he persists in telling them stuff they don't want to hear they might even kill him ... (Have you seen Socrates lately?)

    ; )

  2. Socrates?! I don't know any Socrates! Where'd you get the idea I know Socrates?! Never met the man! Never, never, never!

Don't scare me like that, notacynic.

  3. bahahahahahahahaha love your reply to @notacynic.
Or if you suggest something beyond the current PC party line you are considered a stupid uneducated person or a bigot.
Not sure why you don't get more views ?
I like reading your blog. Sometimes it gets a bit long for me but that is because my eyes are still a problem and I might have to have surgery again.
    le sigh !

  4. parsnip, I think the reason I don't get more page views is because I jump around from topic to topic. People like consistency in their online reading material, and I don't offer that. If I thought it would make me rich, I probably WOULD offer that. But as I'm doing this for free, I would get absolutely no satisfaction from having hundreds of readers if I couldn't write what I want.

Those long essays are the heart and soul of this blog, even if nobody has the time to read them (I sometimes don't have the time to proofread them.) I'm currently working on a humongous piece about folk music. I don't know if anyone's going to want to plow through it once I'm finished, but I need to get it out of my system. Until then, I'll have a lot of short snappy stuff that's easy to read (such as this particular post.) Also, my stat counter shows people reading things I wrote years ago that went unnoticed at the time. I get satisfaction from that.

As for the PC party line, I don't believe either end of the political spectrum is innocent of name calling. They just use different names, that's all.

    Thanks for commenting, parsnip.

  6. Why would you look at your page views? Just get it out there. People peruse and you are leaving an impact.

    1. Actually, I don't, Kass. Though I do agree with the Plato quote, it occurred to me that it was actually kind of subjective, that anybody could decide that they were some great truth-teller, and thus being ignored by the masses, whether that was an accurate self-assessment or not. So I came up with a kind of coda to the quote, that was really meant to be ironic.

Though I do hold some firm beliefs, my overall point-of-view tends to be ironic. I don't call this blog Shadow of a Doubt for nothing.

(I've thought of calling it Kirk's Republic, but I'm not sure how that would go over.)

  7. Oh, Shadow of a Doubt.....I never thought about what it meant. Skeptics (or IRONICoclasts) are the people I most like to be around. A healthy dose of skepticism allows for all possibilities.

In order to keep the hucksters, humbugs, scoundrels, psychos, morons, and last but not least, artificial intelligentsia at bay, I have decided to turn on comment moderation. On the plus side, I've gotten rid of the word verification.
