Quips and Quotations (Screen Legends Hobbies Edition)

I touch them sometimes, with the flat of my hand very gently, amazed again and ever again that little tubes of long-dried pigment could be arranged in such lovely order, that an instant of times gone by, people long dead, music faded away, eyes long ago dimmed and empty, could suddenly be alive once more and very real

--Edward G. Robinson, a noted art collector in his later years.

    1. And a rather elegant writer, too, Debra. Who'da thunk?

    2. Now that I think of it, Debra, he was quoted in an article written by someone else. Robinson may have just been an elegant TALKER, which, for those of us who fumble our words whenever we speak, may be even more impressive.

  2. Hi, Kirk!

Thanks for reminding us that Edward G. Robinson, an actor who built his career playing tough guys, had a gentle side, a tender heart, an appreciation of art and reverence for those who created it.

Happy new year and enjoy the rest of your week, good buddy Kirk!

    1. Actually, Shady, I've seen Robinson play more gentle characters, and play them well, but, as you said, it's the tough guys roles that made his career. A very interesting man.

  3. I had no idea! Sure doesn't fit his usual on-screen persona. See!?!

    1. Mitchell, off-screen he was said to have been a very nice man.

It's a testament to his acting talent that he could turn a single word, "See?!?" into such a memorable catchphrase. He said it in Little Caesar (the movie, not the pizza place.)

  4. We are all so different.
I was in a museum looking at a painting I admired and of course I could not touch it but I leaned in so close (sure the guards were watching me) I was amazed one small stroke was so perfect. I really wanted to touch it.

    cheers, parsnip

    1. Whatever painting that was, parsnip, it must have been very well-done to have that effect on you.
