Quips and Quotations (Cleveland Sports Edition)

It was meet that we should make merry, and be glad: for this thy brother was dead, and is alive again; and was lost, and is found.

--Luke 15:32, King James Version

(Here's something I wrote a few years back--KJ)

  1. This would be a good time for Jesus to come back and for us to see who gets more press, LeBron or Christ.

I would classify myself as a sometimes sports fan...if my teams are winning, then GO TEAM! If they're losing them then I'm Homer Simpson: "My team sucks. It's the suckiest bunch of sucks that ever sucked."

Being upwards of 7' tall (lucky enough to have tall ancestors) with a combination of being able to put a ball in a hoop doesn't seem to me like it is worth $20M a year, but that's what teams are willing to pay. I can't get up the energy to resent it, though. It doesn't come out of my pocket so I really don't care what these guys get paid.

    1. Well, Postino, walking on water might be worth $20M a year, with ancillary endorsement income.

    1. Oh and our police, firemen, teachers are underpaid ?
I understand he/this game is fun for many people but.... 20 million ?

    2. Police, firemen, and teachers don't sell tickets, parsnip.

Though I don't know, people might pay to watch at least the first two in action.

  3. I always loved this scripture and the surrounding 'story'. I couldn't look away when I saw the photos you used. Am I wrong I found it funny?

I guess it's a better deal than the Aztec Ullamaliztli. There was no lost being found in that world of sports. Though wealth did happen for the winning team... I'm sure other career paths were underpaid by comparison in that culture as well.

The world is as backward as it is forward. It all depends on what the focus is. Humans tend to be selfish. Wouldn't we all like to hit the Lottery (even if we don't play)? Money doesn't buy happiness, but it sure takes the pressure off the stresses of NOT having it. BlahBlahBlah... I;m sure if I had more coffee on this summer hot mushy brained morning I could come up with something deeper.

  4. You were right, Akeru, I was trying to be funny (my apologies to the first century doctor and biographer whose quote I used)

Your comment is deep enough for me, Akeru. Thanks.
