Quips and Quotations (21st Century Television Edition)

“Truth is stranger than fiction, but it is because Fiction is obliged to stick to possibilities; Truth isn't.”

--Mark Twain, who obviously never owned a set.

  1. My mind is blown that I can identify every one of those shows, never having watched any of them. What does THAT say about our culture?

  3. Oh My Goodness.... I was going to say the same thing @notacynie said.
Except I have watched them by just seeing the commercials for them.
Seeing them in 30 seconds, seems to be more than I need to see or hear.. Plus I don't think they could have anything more to say or do beyond that time frame.

    cheers, parsnip

  4. I've seen them all at least once, parsnip, some of the more recent shows in truncated form on YouTube as I no longer have cable. Only the last two-- Anna Nicole and the Osbournes--did I follow regularly for a time. My problem with the genre--and it's a problem I would have even with the more respectable PBS-approved Loud family from the last century--is that I'm never sure whether to believe them or not. Ironically, the more entertaining, the more funny I find them, the more sceptical I am that I'm viewing "real life."

For years now I've wanted to do a post on the late Anna Nicole, but can't quite decide what I want to say about her.

  5. It's crazy, but at least Ozzy has talent.

  6. i'm somewhat dismayed, no, a lot dismayed, by the extent to which the viewing audience will go to numb and dumb down.

  7. Well, rraine, I don't believe you have to be numb or dumb to watch such shows. Now, if you BELIEVE what you're watching to be the absolute truth, then you're numb and dumb, and that's what's dismaying.

Good to hear from you again, rraine. It's been awhile.

In order to keep the hucksters, humbugs, scoundrels, psychos, morons, and last but not least, artificial intelligentsia at bay, I have decided to turn on comment moderation. On the plus side, I've gotten rid of the word verification.
