Blog Verite: See Spot Run

On my way over to the library I saw a dog taking a pee against a fire hydrant.

I thought that kind of thing only happened in cliches.

  1. Oh, no, Kirk. I think dogs pee on fire hydrants in or out of cliches. They're not too discriminate.

  2. Yeah, Limes, but I don't think they distinguish them too much from big rocks or trees. Or human knees on occasion.

Incidentally, I once saw this Bugs Bunny cartoon where Bugs is cornered in this alley by a pack of wild dogs. They're just about to attack him when Bugs holds up a book titled A TREE GROWS IN BROOKLYN. The dogs immediately hightail it to the Brooklyn Bridge. There's one thay managed to get past the censors.

  3. Oh, that is FUNNY! By the way that is one of my favorite books and it sits on my nightstand right now. The Badger was chortling at me for liking such an old book. I do like it. About twice a year since I was 10 years old.

  4. Nope, my dog likes 'em too. But not as much as trees. or mailboxes. cliches are based in truth somewhere, I find.

  5. Limes, tell Badger that a book's not old if you're reading it for the very first time. If your reading it for the hundreth time, it's an old friend.

Dreamfarm, I've just seen it more in pop culture than in real life, probably because there are more trees than hydrants--unless you live in Brooklyn.

  6. Oh, rest assured, Kirk, I told him something about his smart remark.
