Quips and Quotations

I passionately hate the idea of being "with it". I think an artist always has to be out of step with his times.

  1. This is true. Also that artists in many ways define the times; Da Vinci, Michelangelo, Andy Warhol, Norman Rockwell, Salvador Dali, etc.

  2. If you are "with it" you are too late. So true...

    Good quote. Thanks.

  3. Absolutely agreed ~ the artists are the trailblazers. And by "artists" I mean writers, musicians, and all who create some form of art. They leave back the tangible icons of their time and place. Thanks for the quote, Kirk. That was thought-provoking.

  4. I'm curious if we all see the boxer shorts dude ad on the left. Or is just me?

  5. Thanks for the thanks, Dreamfarm and Limes. I've been a fan of Welles since I was a kid. And not because of Citizen Kane. I was in my 30s when I first saw that movie (I'm a fan of it now). I was a fan of him as a talk show guest. In the '70s and early '80s he was a regular on Merv, Mike, Johnny, and Dinah. Plus he did a lot of Dean Martin roasts. I found him fascinating, so different from the usual run-of-the-mill laminated celebrity that appeared on those shows. And there was a healthy sense of humor behind his sometimes snobby exterior. He was great.

Tag, if you were looking at the ad box at exact same moment as Dreamfarm and Limes, then, yes, you would have all seen the dude in boxer shorts. If you looked at it a couple of seconds earlier or a couple of seconds later, not neccessarily, as it's always changing. I haven't written any about boxer shorts lately, so the AdSense search engines are really pushing it. So far I've earned about about $3.60 in ad revenue. Another ten years and I should gat a check for a hundred dollars.

  6. Speaking of the ad box, I just went there now and there's a giant picture of Sarah Palin. I swear to God she just winked at me.

  7. Hill, if you're referring to Sarah Palin, I have no desire to drill that baby.

  10. @Anonymous--Maybe the phone is mad at you for not using proper punctuation.

  11. @Hill--If you out there reading this somewhere, I've got a funny story. Lo, these many months after this post first appeared, it happened to pop up in my site meter. I don't know what the person who googled it was looking for, but I decided since I'm here I'll re-read the comments. I just now noticed that your comment is a direct reference to the Orson Welles quote. Yet I didn't seem to notice that at the time, for I'm responding to your comment by saying something about Sarah Palin. My only explanation is that I must have lost track of what the post was about in the first place.

In order to keep the hucksters, humbugs, scoundrels, psychos, morons, and last but not least, artificial intelligentsia at bay, I have decided to turn on comment moderation. On the plus side, I've gotten rid of the word verification.
